What is microneedling?

Also known as Percutaneous Collagen Induction (PCI) or  Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT).

  • Microneedling is a minimally invasive, skin-perfecting procedure that stimulates the creating of new collagen.

  • We utilize an FDA-cleared medical microneedling system intended to treat facial wrinkles AND improve the appearance of acne scars.

  • The procedure is performed in a safe and precise manner, utilizing a sterile micro-needling component.

Treatment areas may include:

Face only

Neck & Decollete

In Person Consultation with Sam

Pre-procedure Consultation

A 30 minute consultation is required prior to scheduling your first treatment to ensure we discuss your medical history, current medications, and determine if this is the right treatment for you. We will discuss expectations both before and after the procedure and we will develop a treatment plan. We will ensure all areas of concern are reviewed, question are answered and pre and post care instructions are clearly discussed.

What should I expect during treatment?

-       A sterile cartridge containing 16 sterile, stainless steel microneedles that can penetrate into the dermis is used to create pinpoint penetrations, promoting a collagen-stimulating healing process.

-       Pinpoint bleeding is the clinical endpoint to achieve over the entire treatment area.

-       Pinpoint bleeding triggers the wound healing cascade.

-       Skin is naturally stimulated to regenerate and produce collagen.

-       New collagen is formed to help reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and facial acne scars.

-       Clinical studies have shown that collagen production may increase by 400% 6 months post treatment.

-       It is important to maintain a healthy diet and nourish your skin to optimize your treatment benefits.

Benefits of Microneedling vs. Laser Treatments

-       Minimal downtime post-procedure

-       Excellent for improving skin texture, tone, skin laxity and balancing pigment

-       Non-ablative so we preserve the integrity of the skin overall and healing time is expedited

-       Virtually pain free

-       No heat is involved so this treatment is safe for melasma and hyperpigmentation concerns

How long does this treatment take?

  • The actual procedure is typically completed in 30-60 minutes.

  • Treatment times may vary based on the required treatment and anatomic site being treated.

  • Additional time is needed to prepare the skin, apply the topical numbing cream to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. 90 minutes should be allowed.

    what are the treatment benefits?

  • This treatment protocol consists of 4-6 treatments once a month.

  • It may be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks, pigmentation and acne scars without the pain.

  • There are specific protocols that we use based on your primary concern whether it be fine lines/wrinkles, pigmentation, or acne.

 What to Expect After Microneedling

  •  After microneedling your skin will be red and flushed like if you had a moderate sunburn.

  • Redness should be greatly reduced within 24-48 hours.

  • You may experience slight swelling, mild tenderness, skin tightness, flakiness, sensitivity, and dryness.

  • It may take up to 5-7 days for the skin to heal depending on the extensiveness of your treatment.

  • Make sure to wash your face with only cool water and mild cleanser provided and pat dry skin.

  • A Mineral based sunscreen of SPF 30+ should be applied and reapplied every 60-90 minutes while outdoors. Please wear a wide brimmed hat for additional protection.

How should I take care of my skin after Microneedling?

 Immediately After Treatment:

  • Cleanse with a mild, gentle cleanser daily.

  • Gently pat dry – do not rub. If your skin feels dry or tight, apply a gentle moisturizer.

  • Avoid activities that will heat up your skin, such as going in a hot tub/Jacuzzi/sauna, taking a very hot shower, or strenuous exercise for 2 days after treatment.

 Use gentle skincare products

  • Use ONLY your post-treatment products for the first four days after your treatment.

  • No vitamin A products for 7 days post treatment (Retin A, Retinol, Tazorac).

  • No exfoliating medications, toners, harsh chemical products, scrubs or devices for at least 7 days post treatment.

  • No chemical peels for 14 days post treatment.

  • Moisturizer should be applied one to two times per day.

 Treatment of Pain/Discomfort

  • A cool, damp compress and Tylenol can be used if you are feeling discomfort or swelling.

  • Do not use anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen - they may decrease the desired inflammatory benefits of micro-needling.

  • DO NOT apply ice to the treatment area – this may result in altered tissue perfusion and injury to the skin.

 Bruising and Swelling.

  • Eat fresh pineapples or drink pineapple juice to minimize bruising and swelling.

  • Arnica supplements may be taken to help with any bruising.

First Few Days.

  • Continue gentle cleansing and moisturizing over the next few days.

  • Avoid scrubbing, rubbing, or using exfoliants for 1 week.

  • Apply sunscreen daily and you can use makeup if needed starting the day after treatment.

NO Scrubs, Toners, Glycolic Acid, and retinoid.

  • Your skin will be sensitive for the first week or two after treatment.

  • Do not use products that will cause irritation during this time.

  • Please do not use any scrubs, toners, glycolic acid, retinoids (RetinA or retinol) until your skin has healed, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Always Wear Sunscreen – Use a mineral SPF.

  • It is very important that you use sunscreen to prevent discoloration and sun damage to the skin while it is healing.

  • Use sunscreen daily for at least 3 months after your last treatment.

  • The mineral sunscreen should offer broadband protection (UVA and UVB) and have a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or more.

  • Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside and reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.

  • If direct sun exposure is necessary, wear a wide brimmed hat and clothing that covers the treated area. Reapply your SPF every 60-90 minutes.

Exercise and Heat.

No sweating, exercising, jacuzzi, sauna or steam bath until skin irritation has resolved (3-7 days).

 First Week of Healing.

Keep treated area clean; avoid smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, excessive exercise, sweating, swimming, or exposing skin to heat and sun.

 Do not pick at skin.

  • No picking at any flaking skin or scabs and avoid using any exfoliating skincare products.

  • Picking will cause additional injury to the epidermis and will significantly increase the risk of Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).

 OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

 Abnormal Healing

  • If you notice any pimples, blisters, cuts, bruises, crusting/scabs, areas of raw skin, ulcerations, active bleeding, increased discomfort or pain, pigment changes (lighter or darker than usual complexion) or any other problems, please contact us as soon as possible.

 POST TREATMENT TIMELINE

*This is a general guideline, so please keep in mind that healing times are different for each individual.

DAY 1 It is normal and expected for skin to feel red, stingy, sunburnt, tight, dry, and slightly sensitive to the touch. Drink plenty of water, avoid make-up and use only the products in your post-treatment kit. You may reapply the hydration and moisturizer repeatedly throughout the day.

DAY 2 Sensations similar to day 1. Skin feels dry, tight and may be slightly pink. Use your post-treatment cleanser, hyaluronic acid, moisturizer & SPF.

DAY 3 Pink. Minimal swelling. Mineral make-up is okay to start using. Continue with post-treatment care kit. Your skin may start to flake or peel. Do not pick or exfoliate the skin.

DAY 4 Minimal swelling, minimal bruising, may have some flaking. May start to use your own mild cleanser and moisturizers. Continue with sunscreen use. You may resume exercise.

DAY 5 Starting to look great! Resume regular products for skin. Continue to avoid direct sun exposure. There may be areas that are darker that flake off after a week.

DAY 8-28 Avoid direct sun exposure. When outdoors use a mineral sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30 and reapply every 1- 1½ hours. Always wear a wide brimmed hat.

GLOWING RESULTS
